Databases

Although I'm not a database expert (yet), a large part of my thesis project concenrns developing a very specific kind of database.

Therefore, I've spent some time looking into the various commercial database packages as well as the "free" software available.

What is a database?

Generally when people talk about databases they are talking about the DBMS -- Database management system. A DMBS is computer software which acts as a filter and control between the data and the applications (and users) which use it

Examples of databases for "bioinformatics":

I'm currently using PostgreSQL for the development of a database to address synteny between Arabidopsis and the Solanaceae.

I hope to have this updated soon, but I think I'll work on my database first :-P
