If anyone is actually taking the trouble to read this, they might wonder where barinth came from. Here's a brief autobiographical sketch and rationalle for the word. My name is Andreas Matern and I'm a geek. I love killing time on the net, learining new things and just generally 'playing around'. It's that exploiration which makes me geeky. One of the things using the internet requires is a nick or a handle that you can use to post messages to chat rooms and bulletin boards, play games, etc. I've gone by a number of nicks, all of which are geeky. For example, I was (and still am) TheTrooper when I was beginning to check out the mp3 world. The Trooper is a song from a band I loved in High School -- Iron Maiden. I had recently bought Iron Maiden's Best of the Beast CD and thought The Trooper would be a good nick. I've also been Charon, which is actually a nick I used when I was in middle school! Barinth, on the other hand, comes from a Dungeons and Dragons character I used to play -- Barinth Lockingjaw. I don't remember the history of the name, but it stuck with me. So much so that I remember writing an essay in 8th grade which began "Barinth was the epitome of all warriors." Now that I'm starting to reorganize my on-line life, I needed a nick for this tripod page, and barinth just came to mind. |
